We decided to try out some strip-till this fall to see how it would work. Overall we are impressed with the way we can cover alot of acres in an hour while making a seedbed for next years crop AND applying our fertilizer. If it is done right you can actually save alot of money by cutting rates because it is placed in the right spot. As you can see Trimble precision equipment plays an important role in this unit. The tractor is guided by an Autopilot on RTK through the FmX display which also controls a Tru Application Control system for rate control and blockage sensing. The row unit is sort of a cross with Shield Ag knifes and DMI closing disks. The Shield Ag knifes make a very mellow and wide 10 inch strip with the perfect amount of residue mixed in. They also can really "boil" the ground and relieve alot of compaction. I was very pleased with them. This has gotten us interested in strip-till and we are now looking for something different. Most of it will be for sale later this winter. We're not sure if we want to keep the cart or not but the row units, toolbar, NH3 control system, may be bought separately or together, we have not decided. They are alot of replacement tools to consider including,: Orthamn 1TripR, Krause Gladiator, and ETS Soil Warrior.
